Whether you're bringing a worn oak floor back to life or putting in new engineered planks, Interior Floor Designs does hardwood work properly. We install solid, top-nail and engineered hardwood, and we refinish and recoat existing floors with custom stains and your choice of finish. We've been installing floors in the greater Seattle area since 1982, and we work throughout King, Snohomish and Skagit counties.
Hardwood Refinishing
A full refinish takes your floor down to bare wood. That removes scratches, gray spots and old stain, and gives you a fresh start with a new color and finish.

Recoating: Refinish or Recoat?
If your floor is dull but the wood itself isn't damaged, a recoat may be all it needs. We lightly abrade the existing finish and apply a fresh topcoat. It costs less than a full refinish, takes less time, and makes less mess. If there are deep scratches, stains, or wear through to bare wood, you'll need a full refinish. We'll tell you honestly which one your floor needs.
Swedish vs. Water-Based Finishes
Our installers are experienced with both.

Swedish (acid-cured) finish. An extremely hard, durable finish with a rich look that ambers over time. It has a strong odor while curing, so you'll need to stay out of the house for a few days.

Water-based finish. It has low odor and dries fast, and it stays clear, so it won't yellow light woods like maple or white oak. You can usually be back in the home much sooner.
Hardwood Installation

Solid hardwood. Classic tongue-and-groove floors, prefinished or finished on site.

Top-nail (face-nailed) hardwood. Traditional plank floors with nails visible on the face of the boards.

Engineered hardwood. Stable, real-wood floors that can go above or below grade, including over concrete.

Stairs. New treads and risers, and refinishing of existing stairs.

We carry engineered hardwood from Kährs, Kentwood, Monarch Plank, Panaget, Somerset and Mercier, in a range of wood species and custom stain options.
Hardwood Over Concrete and in Basements
Moisture is hardwood's worst enemy. For installations on concrete slabs or below grade, we test the slab first. Then we install a moisture mitigation system that suits the conditions, so your floor doesn't cup, gap or fail. Floor Leveling Services.
Cork Flooring
Cork is warm, quiet and soft underfoot, and it's made from a renewable material. It's a good choice for bedrooms, offices and anywhere you stand for long periods. We install both glue-down cork tiles and floating cork planks.
